This event is rarely depicted as a full arc but appears through flashbacks and dialogue throughout the series. It highlights the tragedy of the Hokuto lineage, where brothers are pitted against one another by ambition and circumstance. Toki intervened to stop Raoh from killing Ryuken, not Kenshiro. Ryuken survived long enough to pass the succession to Kenshiro and died later, after Toki's death.

The event occurs before the main story begins during the final days of Ryuken's life. Toki attempts to uphold the dojo's teachings while Raoh challenges their validity through strength. Raoh initiates a confrontation that ends in Toki's death, cementing his break from tradition and his ambition for conquest. Kenshiro witnesses or learns of this tragedy shortly after, solidifying his resolve to protect life rather than rule it. This backstory impacts the entire series by establishing Raoh as the primary antagonist driven by past grievances. It also explains why Kenshiro carries such grief, knowing the cost of their shared heritage.
